Here are some answers to common questions about Woodward West's response to COVID-19, including safety information, rescheduling details for affected campers, VIP appearances, and more:

Is camp on for this summer? What about COVID-19?

Yes. At this time, summer camp will begin the week of July 5 and run through the week of August 16. We are carefully following updates on COVID-19 and Kern County Public Health and the status of Gov. Newsom’s guidance on the State of California, and we will continue to follow all health and regulatory recommendations. Along these lines, we are working with health officials to ensure the safety of our campers, staff and community, including taking actions that promote health, ensure the cleanliness of all camp facilities, and enable social distancing.

All camp weeks occurring in June 2020 (weeks 1-4) have been canceled. Campers originally registered for June camps will be contacted by phone and email for assistance rescheduling. There are incentives (see below) for campers affected by this cancelation who book a new week within summer 2020.

What are you doing to ensure my camper will be safe?

We will continue to carefully monitor COVID-19 and Kern County Public Health Department along with the status of Gov. Newsom’s guidance on the State of California, and follow all health and regulatory guidelines. Along these lines, we are working with health officials to ensure the safety of our campers, staff and community, including taking actions that promote health, ensure the cleanliness of all camp facilities, and enable social distancing.

How do I qualify for a camper store credit / how much is my camper credit for?

Campers already registered for 2020 weeks 1-4 will qualify for a camper store credit if they rebook for a later week this summer or for a week during summer 2021. Your camper’s account will reflect a $200 credit if you rebook to a week during summer 2020, or a $100 credit if you rebook to a week during summer 2021. The camper store credit will be deposited directly into the camper's store card account and can be used for clothing, recreation, snacks, and equipment while at camp.

What is a ‘camper store credit’?

Although optional, we typically suggest parents place a minimum of $200.00 spending money in camper store accounts when sending their child for a week at Woodward. The camper store credit we are offering, if you rebook to a later week this or next summer, can be applied to this spending money camper bank account. As context, campers use spending money for purchases such as: Woodward clothing in the camp store, snacks, equipment or parts at the shop, or pay-to-play recreation such as Create-A-Skate or Woodward T-Shirt Tie Dye. The camper store credit will go a long way toward covering these types of purchases.

If I qualify, how will I get the camper store credit?

The camper store credit will be issued to your camper upon arrival to camp.

If I opt to move to another week, is my new price the same as the price I paid for my original week?

If you rebook to a later week this summer, we will honor the registration rate from the week originally booked. 2021 summer camp rates include:

  • Skateboard, BMX, Scooter, MTB, Digital Media, Intro to Action: $1,499/week
  • Gymnastics, Cheer, Dance, Parkour: $1,299/week

What if I don’t want to rebook and I want to cancel? (Without Woodward Camp Tuition Protection Plan,) Can I get a refund?

Week 1-4 Campers: We understand it may be difficult to adjust plans. If you are considering camp next year, now is the best time to book, with the camper store card credit as an extra perk. That being said, if you need a refund, we will honor your request with a 100% refund, with or without the camp tuition protection plan. If you purchased the camp tuition protection plan, we will also refund your purchase of the camp tuition protection plan.

Week 5-11 Campers: We understand there is a lot of uncertainty about COVID-19. At this point, because camp is on and we are running camp with a number of mitigation actions in place, we are not offering refunds unless you purchased the camp tuition protection plan. That being said, you can roll over your 2020 registration to a 2021 week at no penalty and at the same rate.

I bought the camp tuition protection plan and want to cancel/get a refund because of COVID-19. Can I also get a refund on my camp tuition protection plan?

Week 1-4 Campers: We understand these are challenging times and because your week was cancelled because of COVID-19, we will refund your full camp tuition payment and the camp tuition protection plan cost.

Week 5-11 Campers: We understand there is a lot of uncertainty about COVID-19. At this point, because camp is on and we are running camp with a number of mitigation actions in place, we are not offering refunds unless you purchased the camp tuition protection plan. That being said, if you do not have a protection plan we are happy to work with you to roll over your 2020 registration to a 2021 week at no penalty and at the same rate.

I booked because of the VIPs attending my week - Which VIPs will be at camp in week 5 and beyond?

The VIPs and special guests for week 5 and beyond have not changed and we are working with VIPs who were attending weeks 1-4 to come to a later week. At this time, we do not have details as to which week VIPs from weeks 1-4 will now attend. Stay tuned here:

If I book now and camp is cancelled because of COVID-19, will I get a refund?

This is a fluid situation and we will adjust our operations if needed based on a number of factors, including health and regulatory recommendations. It’s hard to speculate at this point, but potential extenuating circumstances may require us to review our policies and make accommodations. We recommend booking with the Woodward Camp Tuition Protection Plan to feel most confident with your booking.

Do you recommend I book with camp tuition protection plan for COVID-19?

The camp tuition protection plan affords you with the ultimate flexibility – it means you can cancel and obtain a full refund should your personal plans change. If camp is cancelled because of COVID-19, you will receive a refund.

What specific modifications or changes (to housing, social distancing, etc.) are you making as a result of COVID-19?

The health and safety of our campers, employees and community is our top priority. We will continue to monitor the situation, follow all health and regulatory recommendations and take actions so that we may safely offer the camp experience this summer.
